“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.”
- Edith Lovejoy Pierce
“For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice.”
- T.S. Eliot
“The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul”
- G. K. Chesterton
Any ideas on what the topic of this entry may be? Today, of course, is December 31st. New Year's Eve. The final day to throw caution to the wind and conclude what may remain of 2009. All the highs and lows of the past year will, in a manner of speaking, culminate into the birth of a new opportunity. A new dawn. Another 365 days to make whatever changes seem necessary. We all want to get it right this year. The pages of 2009 are written with every success, failure, mistake, and revelation that are forged together to create the blueprint of what our lives should look like in the coming year. Like many people, I have learned alot about myself in the last 365 days. I won't bore you with details simply because what works for me may not apply to you. The point is that we all have another opportunity. Whatever goals you may have set for yourself, go for them! Let's make this a New Year where our resolutions don't just become something we said on New Year's Day. Make some choices, make some changes, and create some happiness. That's all we deserve in life. No matter who you are, what you do, or where you're from, if you are happy then you have the world.
Here's to one last great sendoff to 2009! Hope you all find yourselves surrounded friend, family, or loved ones. Have fun, be careful, and in the words of a great Smoky Mountain High School english teacher, "Remember who you are"!
